About Ann Smith
I am Director of Bariatric Surgery at VA Boston and also a general surgeon with a specialty in minimally invasive surgery and anti-reflux procedures. My research combines computer science, my undergraduate major, with surgery. I received two innovation awards and completed a clinical trial testing a no-touch device that we developed in collaboration with the MIT Media Lab. I also use Natural Language Processing to study communication and cognitive load in surgery. Other studies I\'ve completed have used more traditional statistical analysis to review surgical outcomes.
