About Ann Long

I have a passion for organizing and managing projects and project teams. With 30+ years project management experience working with IT projects and programs, I have worked for a major wholesale food distributor (Fleming Companies), a leading car rental company (Hertz Corporation), a large independent oil and gas producer (Devon Energy), plus State (Office of State Finance) and Federal (Federal Aviation Administration) government. I began my career at the Fleming Companies as a unix system administrator. After more than 10 years in that role, I accidentally transitioned into the role of project manager and never looked back. I became certified through the Project Management Institute, serving on the board of the local PMI chapter (PMI-OKC) as Membership Director then Chapter President. I began teaching certification courses for Oklahoma City University, continuing through 2019, and acting as lead instructor.I continued in the PM role at Hertz, then shifted to project management office formation at the Office of State Finance and the FAA. After three years bringing an Aeronautical Center-wide focus on project management, I transitioned to the FAA Logistics Center as program manager.During my career as a Federal employee, I achieved government certification as both a program manager (Level 3) and a contracting officer’s representative. I have significant government contracting experience, putting that to use in developing a government contracting certificate course for OCU.Upon returning to private sector, I worked at Devon Energy as a program manager, then as a portfolio manager. Both roles required significant senior management interaction as well as PM mentoring and coaching.I am now back in the public sector, sort of, working for Karsun Solutions as a senior director and program manager for a $540 million dollar IT program for the FAA.I view projects as problems to be solved, and enjoy applying the proper methodology, whether predictive or adaptive, or a hybrid, to meet project needs. I also enjoy working with project teams, ensuring they have the funding, skill sets, and solid planning needed to be successful.
