ABOUT ANN KARTY
I have witnessed changes in medicine. When I graduated medical school, it was an era of Health Management Organizations (HMOs) and then the health care environment transitioned away from capitated health care plans with financial investment in physician practices, often then followed by subsequent hospital divestment and practice closures, and overlaid with transitions in provider employment structure. Health care for all that uses value based quality outcomes as metrics are critical for population and improved health of communities. And, patients must remain integral decision makers along with their health care team. Interprofessional team-based health care, integrated with provider lifelong learning, must be coupled with quality improvement, systems adaptations, technologic advances, and community involvement to address population health.
