About Ankolika de
I am a fourth year ABD, PhD candidate at Penn State\'s College of Information Sciences and Technology. I am an interdisciplinary researcher studying how people engage with and adapt to platform technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems and Social Media. I also analyze how technological change is framed and collaborate with communities to design more inclusive systems. Using methods such as interviews, focus groups, content and discourse analysis, and participatory design, I center user perspectives to inform better governance and design. Disciplinarily, I draw from Human-Computer Interaction, Computer and Information Sciences, Media Studies, and Science and Technology Studies. With a background in Computer Science and as a PhD candidate in the Information Sciences department, I collaborate with scholars across both technical and humanistic fields, engaging primarily in the following interconnected research streams.1. Investigate how users appropriate digital platforms, and co-design locally situated platforms for their use. Analyze discourses and imaginaries surrounding technologies. Develop methods for meaningful involvement of communities in design and policy.
