Last August my cousin Paul died after a difficult battle with cancer, at the age of 57. His funeral however, was a celebration of his life and I was so inspired that I went on to become a funeral celebrant myself. I have had a wonderful training which was intense and transformational, It started in September last year and I conducted my first funeral this morning and with two ahead of me next week. I feel privileged and honoured to do this work and to bring to it the skills I have learned as a teacher, therapist and writer.

ABOUT ANITA VASAN VAIKUNTHAVASAN

I work as an independent funeral celebrant, offering \'celebrations of life\' which reflect the values and beliefs of the person who has died. Families and friends tend to choose the option of an independent celebrant, when a minister, priest or other religious celebrant is not appropriate for the person who died - particularly if they are atheist, agnostic, humanist, or had their own personal mix of spiritual beliefs. It is a way to honour the whole life and reflect them as a person, so that family and friends can say goodbye in an authentic way.I have also written a semi-autobiographical fiction novel about living with and overcoming Insecure Attachment and am training to become an opera singer.
