About Anita Apau

I am a Physician, with about nine (9) years of experience. I completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) program (Infectious Diseases) with some aspects of Global Health at Johns Hopkins University, United States. Before the start of the MPH program, I worked at the United Nations COVID Field Hospital, Accra-Ghana, as the Senior MD and the lead for the COVID-19 Case Management Team, my duties included identification of suspected COVID-19 cases, isolation of confirmed cases of COVID-19, quarantining of close contacts and the maintenance and management of data for confirmed cases of COVID-19, suspected cases, and close contacts. I led the contact tracing team and also wrote the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for this project with regard to the management of COVID-19, in line with the WHO and CDC guidelines and policies. I worked in the emergency and general wards to receive and manage moderate and severe COVID-19 cases and also coordinated clinical meetings and training for the health staff at the facility.Prior to my work at the United Nations Field Hospital, I had experiences in primary care, clinic management, clinical governance, infection prevention, and occupational health with International SOS, Ghana. During my MPH program at Johns Hopkins University, I worked as an intern with the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Contact Tracing Unit, United States. We undertook a qualitative project to investigate and document the impact that contact tracers have had on the COVID-19 pandemic. This project was titled “Interviewing the Interviewers: Capturing Oral Histories and Other Qualitative Evidence to Describe the Impact of COVID-19 Contact Tracing.” The primary objective was to capture qualitative aspects of COVID-19 contact tracing to document the impact and preserve and present the impact of COVID-19 contact tracing by developing an oral history-informed presentation and report. I took the lead on this critical project in Maryland State and was instrumental in planning and implementing it. I am fully committed to advancing public health and look forward to taking the lead in other outbreak to academic excellence and commitment to advancing public health, I have been elected into the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health. I am also certified in Public Health by the US National Board of Public Health Examiners.
