This program is a leadership and policy development program extending from November 2021 – April 2023 (18 months). Fellows were selected from a national pool of applicants to attend six multi-day convening sessions. They also participate in ten short webinars as well as executive coaching and demonstrate results from their actual practice utilizing the tools they will gain in this training. This interactive development training is designed to benefit from group participation with individuals demonstrating a leadership track record and an interest in early childhood education and family support for Black children and families. The training combines both virtual and in-person sessions and include opportunities for participants to network with NBCDI stakeholders, mentors, and supporters who are all committed to increasing Black leadership presence at the policy table.

ABOUT ANISSA L. EDDIE
Anissa L. Eddie is a dedicated leader in early childhood policy and systems building at both the state and national level. She brings extensive experience spanning both micro and macro practice. Anissa’s direct experience working with children and families comes from her most important role as the mother of three young children and her previous work as a school-based social worker and clinical therapist serving children and families. In the macro space, Anissa has also served as the Associate Director for Kent County Michigan’s collective impact initiative – a network of public and private organizations collaborating to improve system level outcomes through quality education, family, and community supports. Prior to starting her doctoral program at Michigan State University in the Department of Human Development & Family Studies, Anissa led Kent County’s prenatal-to-three initiative as one of 14 Pritzker Fellows through the National Collaborative for Infants and Toddlers. As a Pritzker Fellow, Anissa secured over half a million dollars in grant funds to launch a community-based doula program. She also worked closely with the successful effort to pass a county-wide millage providing 34 million dollars of dedicated funding for early childhood programs. During her Pritzker Fellowship, Anissa also led the Kent Child Care Crisis Response Team that was established at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Her work with this team included advocacy with the Kent County Commission that resulted in covid relief funds being directly allocated to local child care businesses, and the coordination of listening sessions between child care business owner and state legislators as they crafted child care relief grants. Along with pursuing her PhD in child development, Anissa is currently a Policy Fellow with the National Black Child Development Institute, and she is the founder and Principal Consultant of Liminality Consulting. As a consultant, Anissa has worked nationally with the Center for the Study of Social Policy and at the state level with Michigan’s Early Childhood Investment Corporation. Anissa is skilled facilitator with broad experience in project management, collaboration building, public speaking, and legislator engagement. Through both her policy practice and research agenda, Anissa aims to support families, early childhood educators, and policy makers as they contribute to building equitable systems that enable all children to thrive.
