About Anish Patel

I was born in Fort Myers, Florida to immigrant parents who decided they wanted to leave India and chase the American Dream. Eventually we settled in Texas, where I grew up and attended UT Austin for undergrad and medical school. Hook ‘em Horns! I’m a first-generation scholar in my family; the first to graduate high school, college, a brand new medical school as part of the inaugural class, business school, and the first to successfully match into a competitive surgical residency. Beginner’s luck, but I’ve learned so much along the way and I look forward to keep learning.My path into medicine has been fairly traditional to say the least and I haven’t veered far from the path, yet. As a Urology resident, I work in diverse, fast-paced clinical settings at University Hospitals, VA Medical Center, and MetroHealth Medical Center providing medical and surgical care for complex patients as part of multidisciplinary teams. I have a passion for providing value-based, patient-centered care. I love helping people and improving their quality of life. I thrive in making people smile. I also serve as a Urology consultant and Fellow for University Hospitals Ventures, where I’ve developed a skillset that allows me to effectively determine the potential and quality of an investment opportunity. With Urology being at the forefront of surgical innovation, the path into venture capitalism and commercialization of ideas is a natural pivot. Unsurprisingly, I enjoy learning about new technologies and how we can leverage innovation to have the greatest impact possible within healthcare, even beyond the individual patients I serve. Lastly, I’m a devout hobbyist. My interests include photography/videography, DJing, true crime podcasts, pickleball, billiards, golf, fencing, and strategy board games.    As a trainee, I learn the nuances of managing pediatric and adult patients with a multitude of urologic disease ranging from congenital anomalies, cancer, reconstruction, sexual health and fertility. I have experience working in fast-paced multi-disciplinary teams at two tertiary academic level 1 trauma centers.
