About Anise Medina
My writing serves as a bridge between that of the audience and artist. Through story, I provide the observer with a deeper understanding of the artist and their works. My goal is to create an immersive and memorable experience, for I believe art is always personal and universal.I specialize in outsider, folk, self-taught, and visionary art with a focus on found objects and ephemera. For five years, I have been working for koelsch gallery — Houston’s only institution exclusively dedicated to outsider and folk artists (i.e. Purvis Young, Eddie Arning, Uncle Pete Drgac, Mr. Imagination). I work with a variety of artists across various disciplines including sculpture, assemblage, collage, photography, installation, found objects, printmaking, painting, wearable art, and illustration. Whether aspiring or established, trained or self-taught, deliberate or intuitive; all works remain connected through their roots of sensibility and authenticity. My personal realm of creativity consists of black and white analog photography, ephemera, and alternative processing.

Oversee day-to-day gallery operations, acting independently on behalf of the gallerist in a senior leadership role- Lead all communications, including press releases, exhibition texts, artist biographies and CVs, publication outreach, and gallery messaging- Manage digital strategy and social media across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn; plan and execute marketing campaigns for exhibitions and artists- Conduct art historical, genre, and market research to support exhibitions, pricing context, and collector education- Assist in curatorial planning, exhibition development, and spatial presentation of works- Handle direct sales and cultivate long-term relationships with collectors, advisors, and institutions- Photograph artworks, installations, and exhibition openings for digital publication and archival use- Maintain gallery archives, sales records, and client databases.
