WORK HISTORY
Automation Technologist @Sync Robotics
As an Automation Technologist Co-op, I’ve contributed to the full electrical integration of a Beckhoff-based industrial automation system for The Timken Company. This included end-to-end panel wiring with relays, fuses, bulkhead connectors, and cable management for 24V components, all based on electrical schematics. I routed and labeled cables across conveyors, robot, MDX, HMI, and fume extractor, and built 6 door-mounted safety button boxes. I powered up and commissioned the system safely using multimeter diagnostics. I also programmed and tested an SMC solenoid valve using TwinCAT 3, simulated HMI signal flow in Ladder Logic, and completed formal Beckhoff training (Structured Text, Ladder Logic, FBD, OOP, and GitHub source control), reinforced by developing a junction and conveyor systems logic.

ABOUT ANIMISH GUPTA
I’m a Mechanical Engineering student at UBC with a passion for robotics, automation, and mechatronics. My experience spans from hands-on co-op work in industrial automation at Sync Robotics — where I designed and assembled control panels, created schematics, and improved testing/documentation processes — to academic research on fire and smoke detection using YOLO models deployed on Raspberry Pi. I’ve also built and prototyped multiple personal projects, including a six-degree-of-freedom robotic arm and a tendon-driven humanoid hand, applying CAD design (SolidWorks), 3D printing, and iterative testing to bring ideas to life. These experiences have strengthened my design, prototyping, and problem-solving skills while fueling my interest in human-robot interaction. My background is shaped by diverse experiences: I served 2.5 years in the Singapore Armed Forces as a Corporal First Class, developing leadership, resilience, and operational discipline under high-pressure conditions. I’ve also explored roles in retail operations and consulting, gaining adaptability and a business-oriented mindset that complements my technical work. I’m motivated to contribute to teams working on robotics, mechatronics, and advanced mechanical design, and I’m always excited to learn from innovative environments where engineering has direct, real-world impact.
