About Anika Akhter

Hi there! My name is Anika Akhter and I\'m an experienced project manager who has worked in different fields over the past 7 years, including violence prevention, tribal research and evaluation, sexual and reproductive health, and homeless services. A passion for advancing social, racial, economic, and political justice for BIPOC has been my north star and the common thread underlying my career trajectory. My diverse work experiences have enabled me to develop various critical skills, including but not limited to the following- Program management - Active contract management- Strategic planning- Grant writing and administration - Quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis- Evidence-based program development, implementation, and evaluation As a Project Manager at LAHSA, I simultaneously managed multiple large projects in a fast-paced, politically charged environment, launching 16 programs for people experiencing homelessness over 1.5 years. I worked with various internal and external stakeholders to do so, and my ability to collaborate effectively with others to create positive change is reflected in my receipt of LAHSA’s Core Value Award, specifically for the Collaboration category.I meet challenges head-on, relish opportunities to develop my skills, and bring a strong drive to whatever I pursue. I believe that these qualities contributed to my nomination for Employee of the Month twice within my first year of working at LAHSA. My passion for social justice and my leadership abilities are reflected in both my professional and personal life. For instance, in April 2022, I led a teach-in on racial inequities in homelessness during the I.L.M Foundation\'s Humanitarian Day. A week later, I co-organized an iftar that brought together 60 community leaders in Orange County and was featured in the LA Times. I strongly believe that we all have a role to play in making the world a better place and strive to do my part however I can.I also firmly believe in the importance of people and organizations lifting each other up.
