ABOUT ANÍBAL TORNÉS BLANCO
Once I wrapped up my Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, I joined as one of two the Research Operations, Management & Strategy (ROMS) Fellows in the Office of Research at the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS). This program is unique across the country in that it helps biomedical trained Ph.D. scientists develop expertise in research administration, operational strategy, and project management within an Academic Medical Center (AMC), supporting initiatives that strengthen research infrastructure and institutional effectiveness. My work centers on translating strategic priorities from UMMS into operational action by 1) analyzing workflows, 2) identifying process improvement opportunities, and 3)contributing to cross-functional projects that help us achieve our goal of focusing on researcher support so that they can focus on their science.Going forward in the fellowship I am particularly interested in responsible AI implementation in research operations, documentation optimization for scalable systems that increase research accessibility for both investigators and administrators both in AMCs as well as in smaller institutions. As I advance into the second year of my fellowship, I am focused on deepening hands-on experience in project execution, managing up, and institutional strategizing within complex local and global research environments.Interests: Research Operations | Academic Medical Centers | Strategic Planning | Process Improvement | AI in Research Administration | Workflow Optimization | STEM Outreach
