ABOUT ANGELO DI BERNARDO
Angelo Di Bernardo is an associate professor at the University of Salerno (since May 2023) with a joint temporary affiliation with the University of Konstanz. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in 2016, and then won a Junior Research Fellowship from St John\'s College in Cambridge to carry out an independent research project. In 2019, he was awarded one of the six international Sofja Kovalevskaja grants from the Alexander von Humbdolt Foundation (AvH) to lead his own group at the University of Konstanz, where then became associate professor in 2020.Since he became a PI in 2019, prof. Di Bernardo has been awarded (to July 2024) several research grants totalling up ~ 3.1 million euros of personal contributions, which include: 2 DFG grants as co-PI to study devices based on van der Waals heterostructures, 1 EU FET-Open grant \'SuperGate\' as co-PI on gate-controlled superconducting devices, 1 Sofja Kovalevskaja grant as PI from the AvH on superconducting spintronics, 1 Zukunftskolleg fellowship as PI also for superconducting spintronics, 1 MAECI grant as PI to study coupling of magnons to superconductivity, and a PNRR grant as co-PI for devices for superconducting quantum bits.To date (July 2024), he has supervised 2 postdocs, 8 Ph.D. candidates, 5 master and 4 bachelor students. His group interests include 2D and quantum materials, superconducting devices, spectroscopy (muons, low-T STM).Since 2014, he has co-authored more than 40 articles (4 as first author and 12 as last author), most of which published in high-IF journals including Nat. Mater, Nat. Commun, Phys. Rev. X, ACS Nano. He has given more than 50 invited talks at international conferences, has been reviewer for > 30 journals and several grants (ERC, DFG, SNF etc.) and associate editor of the Journal of Low-Temperature Physics.For his achievements, he has been awarded the Nicholas Kurti Science Prize (2022), the Sofja Kovalevskaja Award (2019), the IOP Brian Pippard Prize (2018), the ESAS Prize for Young Researchers (2017), the CSC Fellowship (2015), the Schiff Foundation Studentship (2012), the US-Italy Fulbright Self-Placed Scholarship (2011).
