I’m Angeles Ponpa, a multimedia journalist and graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. I cover hard news, with a focus on immigration enforcement, drug and human trafficking, Latin American affairs, and emerging infrastructure issues including data centers and artificial intelligence.My reporting centers on government decision-making, law enforcement activity, and regulatory policy, with an emphasis on accuracy, verification, and public-records reporting. I specialize in translating complex legal, security, and economic issues into clear, factual stories for broadcast and digital audiences.While reporting from Washington, D.C. with Medill, I covered Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court, reporting on immigration, national security, and federal policy. That experience strengthened my ability to report on enforcement actions, legislation, and court decisions with precision and restraint.I currently serve as Managing Editor for LNN Midwest, where I oversee regional coverage across Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. In that role, I work closely with students and freelance reporters to guide stories from pitch through publication, ensuring strong sourcing, structure, and editorial standards.I also report for 25 WEEK News, based in East Peoria, Illinois, producing enterprise and day-of-air reporting grounded in verification and on-the-record sourcing.I am bilingual in English and Spanish and regularly conduct bilingual reporting, including Spanish-language interviews and written coverage.My work has appeared in The Fulcrum, Medill Reports, Inside Climate News, NewsNation, and The Texas Observer, covering immigration policy, energy and technology infrastructure, and cross-border issues in the Americas.Before journalism, I worked in government and public affairs, shaping my approach to reporting as fact-driven, process-oriented, and focused on accountability rather than advocacy.My Catholic faith informs my personal ethics and commitment to professional integrity.
