Effectively leads and manages all aspects of external and internal communications, public affairs and media relations activities for the nation’s top federal agency for highways, roads and bridges with an annual budget of more than $70 billion to advance the agency’s policies, programs and priorities and promote the safety and reliability of transportation across the nation.Provides strategic advice and counsel to the FHWA Administrator, Executive Director and FHWA Leadership Team across 52 Division Offices in each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico on all communications matters, controversial issues, major announcements, rollout plans and events to maximize positive media coverage, enhance public understanding and ensure support from key stakeholders, including news media, Members of Congress, State Departments of Transportation, local county and city governments, and the general public.Leads and manages FHWA’s Office of Media Relations, directing day-to-day activities and overseeing the development of accurate, appropriate and timely communications materials, including all agency media responses, media advisories, news releases, rollout plans, briefing materials, talking points, fact sheets, speeches, internal and external Q&A, social media plans and initiatives that result in local, regional and national media coverage.
