ABOUT ANGELA LAWSON

I am exploring the possibilities here on the West Coast in San Diego. I am a digital nomad, and a recent graduate with a master of arts in teaching, a teaching license, and banking experience that equips me to teach financial literacy. I focus on proofreading in my lessons so that students learn to review, and correct their own work in every subject before they turn it in, which gives them the opportunity to have the critical “A-Ha” moment - when learning becomes a personal, and powerful, student experience.Teaching students gives me the opportunity to focus on the positive, and have hope for future possibilities. I had the privilege to teach grades K-12 in many subjects in-person in New Jersey and Chicago, and online across the country, including ESL and ESE students. I can teach in English and Spanish, as I covered many bilingual classes in New Jersey. I also learned how to teach students whose primary language is a language I do not speak - using models, diagrams, and other ESL tools. A picture really is worth a thousand words, and can encourage true learning.I added online tutoring to my teaching experience as many students need a person to help them while they are learning online, whether they are in class, working on homework, or need guidance for a learning project. It\'s a different way of interacting with students. I have to be energetic to keep their attention. But it\'s just as rewarding, especially because I can teach students all over the world.My goal is to improve my teaching skills. I want to become more familiar with online and in person methods that will give students the foundation they need to be successful learners. As a teacher, I am also a student. I will continue to enjoy this journey.
