In the sixth grade, I heard about a new class called \"Data Entry\"​. I was intrigued. Two other geeky kids showed up for the first meeting, though that adjective didn’t yet carry the cache it does today. By the end of our first semester, the three of us had built a BASIC program to report the school\'s daily attendance. During home room, while other kids were saying “here”, I was running the halls, gathering data, and entering it furiously into our 8086 IBM computer. We ran the program, fingers crossed, and with stunned amazement, it worked. It worked every time, consistently, without error. The teachers were grateful, and we had done a very cool and innovative thing. We were running the school now, or so we felt. Walking that printout down to the principal’s office was the most fulfilling endeavor of my education, until I built my next program: calculating my GPA. I\'ve been hooked ever since on building products which make it easier for people to do the things they love to do. I’m still fascinated by the prospect that technology, useful and engaging technology, enables us to achieve our goals more efficiently and with more focus. And that\'s why I create tools for Googlers! As part of the Corporate Engineering team, I help Googlers by creating the tools and infrastructure that enable all of us to make cool things.
