ABOUT ANGELA CAMPBELL

My professional experience revolves around libraries. I\'ve worked at libraries since I was 14 years old, beginning as a \"page\" at my local public library. Throughout my undergraduate years, I was a circulation clerk at my college library. Graduating magna cum laude from Lindenwood University with a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communication, I immediately entered graduate school at Dominican University to pursue my Master of Library and Information Science. One year later, I graduated with my MLIS and began working at the Davenport (IA) Public Library. After seven years as a reference librarian and book discussion group coordinator, I had the great opportunity to build a new department in the Library, which allowed me to use both of my college degrees. With only one other staff person, we built the PR/Programming Department and were responsible for promoting more than 600 programs per year, planning special events, all media relations, graphic arts, and printing. It was a \"one-stop-PR-shop\" that also happened to do event planning. It was a terrific job that helped increase library usage considerably. After 13+ years at DPL, I moved on to the next step in my career - directing a small public library near a large metro area. The Glenwood Public Library was a great learning experience. My two years there taught me a lot of new skills and allowed me to meet many new people. Two major things I accomplished in Glenwood included creating a makerspace technology lab, and completing a renovation of the new youth services area. This position provided enough background to move on to a new directorship at the Rock Island Public Library - a larger, urban library - where I have been since 2013. Although we have accomplished a lot, there is still much to do! We launched a new Mobile Library2Go service in 2020, and are currently working on a capital campaign for a joint Library/YMCA facility in the central part of the City. I am very proud to lead the team of employees at the Rock Island Public Library, work with our Foundation, and collaborate with the City. It is a wonderful place to call home. Specialties: Planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating library programs for a variety of ages. Statistics, budgeting, reference, discussion, mediation, and graphic design.
