ABOUT ANGELA TENBROECK
Leading transformative change in sustainable rural and urban agriculture, I serve as Executive Director of the Center for Sustainable Agricultural Excellence & Conservation (CSAEC) and as an agricultural entrepreneur advancing regenerative food systems across the globe. My work centers on integrating evidence-based, climate-smart practices into diverse urban, peri-urban, and rural landscapes—strengthening ecological balance, food security, and community resilience.Central to this mission is the Recirculating Agriculture System (RAgS), a closed-loop, energy- and water-efficient production model that blends aquaculture, hydroponics, and circular nutrient cycling. The RAgS process reduces water consumption by up to 95%, increases land productivity four-fold, and creates scalable pathways for smallholder, landless, and urban farmers to enter high-value markets. This model has now been deployed or adapted in regions ranging from North America to East Africa, the Caribbean, and conflict-affected zones, serving as both a production engine and a workforce development platform.Across these contexts, I work at the intersection of policy development, program design, and technological innovation, shaping strategies that elevate producer livelihoods while enhancing climate resilience. Through global advocacy and cross-sector convening—spanning Rotary International, UN-aligned dialogues, academic institutions, and grassroots farmer networks—I champion equitable land-use systems that prioritize environmental integrity and community well-being.At CSAEC, our initiatives continue to strengthen local and regional food economies: expanding climate-smart agriculture, training the next generation of growers, and scaling regenerative, market-ready models like RAgS. These efforts reflect a lifelong commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture that is data-driven, community-centered, and globally impactful.
