About Angela Moncada Hewitson
I am a relationship-driven strategist and systems thinker working at the intersection of maritime industry, workforce development, and community-centered innovation. My work focuses on building durable partnerships and translating values into practice through programs, partnerships, and emerging workforce systems. As Director of Business Development at Sea Potential, I support the expansion of employer partnerships, consulting and certification services, and a forthcoming maritime hiring platform designed to better connect community and industry. I focus on aligning employer needs with community-centered approaches to workforce development—ensuring pathways into maritime careers are accessible, relevant, and sustainable. My experience spans fisheries, boatbuilding, maritime education, public engagement, and organizational strategy. Across this work, I have led convenings, developed cross-sector partnerships, and supported initiatives that reconnect communities—often generationally excluded from maritime spaces—to water-centered careers and decision-making, particularly in the Salish Sea. As a Chicana from the Inland Empire, I bring a perspective grounded in hands-on work across land and water-based systems, with a commitment to equity, relational accountability, and long-term stewardship. I am currently pursuing a Master’s in Marine Affairs at the University of Washington’s School of Marine and Environmental Affairs, where my academic focus explores community-centered blue economy approaches through a place-based and justice-oriented lens. My goal is to support coastal resilience and industry evolution by strengthening the relationships and strategies that shape our ocean futures.
