About Angela Hwang

I am a CEO-Partner at Flagship Pioneering and CEO of Metaphore Biotechnologies, a biotechnology company pioneering the next frontier in AI drug design. Prior to joining Flagship, I spent nearly three decades at Pfizer, including most recently as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, serving as Chief Commercial Officer and President of the Global Biopharmaceuticals Business. My organization was responsible for bringing all 600 of Pfizer’s medicines and vaccines to patients in 185 countries. I led many groundbreaking product launches, including the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine and oral antiviral treatment, and executed dozens of business development deals to grow and expand Pfizer’s portfolio.Outside of my leadership role at Metaphore, I am on the Board of Directors of UPS and Connecticut Innovations, the state of CT’s venture fund, as well as a member of Cornell’s Johnson Graduate School of Management Advisory Council. I am ranked among the world’s top leaders in healthcare and business by CNBC, Crain’s, Business Insider, Forbes, and Fortune, which placed me on the Most Powerful Women in Business list four years in a row. I am a A100 Honoree, which recognizes the most impactful AAPI leaders of the past year. I also received the President’s Award from the National Diversity Council, and was recognized as a Ascend A-list Honoree for my professional achievements as an Asian American leader. I was also named Cornell University’s Hatfield Fellow. My commitment to health equity and delivering breakthroughs to patients, no matter where they live, is rooted in my life story. Growing up as an Asian girl in South Africa during the apartheid era has profoundly shaped my worldview. I am a wife and proud mom to a teenage daughter and son.
