Debate Judge @Houston Urban Debate League
Houston, TX, US
The Houston Urban Debate League (HUDL) is a non-profit 501(C)(3) dedicated to re-introducing academic debate to under-served and at-risk students in Houston area high schools. HUDL serves more than 1070 students in 30 HISD high schools and 12 middle schools. HUDL has enjoyed increasing competitive success in local, state and even national tournaments. In 2013, HUDL teams placed among the top teams in the nation at the National Association for Urban Debate League’s Urban Debate National Championship in Washington, D.C. Through the generosity of its supporters, the HUDL is able to offer students the life-changing benefits of debate.• Debate is a contest in arguing a specific resolution. Each affirmative team will interpret the resolution differently. As a judge, the task is to determine whether the affirmative proves that the adoption of the resolution would be in the best interests of the United States.• Qualified, beyond 4 years of high school experience, to judge Cross-Examination Debate and Speech events such as Original Oratory, United States Extemporaneous Speaking, International Extemporaneous Speaking, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, and Duo Interpretation—as well as seven consolation and supplemental events.
