About Angela Zhang
Hello, my name is Angela Zhang! I\'m a driven multimedia journalist and documentarian. I am passionate about unveiling the human impacts of geopolitics and policy through empathetic storytelling. Currently, I work on ABC7 Chicago\'s Assignment Desk. Prior, I worked with Foreign Policy, where I co-produced a full season of the limited podcast series Everyday Ambassador. Before that, I covered a historic election road with MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show and Alex Wagner Tonight. My reporting has taken me from Washington with the Medill News Service (MNS), where I’ve reported live on national security directly from the White House, to Beijing with China Documentary International Media, Co, where I’ve bilingually covered ethnic minorities in China. My most recent short documentary, Keep Her Safe, was selected to air at this year\'s Academy Award-qualifying AmDocs Film Festival. For MNS, my short documentary about an American mother of five separated from her undocumented husband was nationally recognized by AAJA, the SPJ and lawmakers on the Hill — and saw impact through President Biden subsequently instating an executive order to help mixed-status families. For Northwestern News Network, my investigation into Chicago museums failing to return Native American remains earned a College Emmy nomination. I have experience in print, broadcast video, on-air reporting, documentary production, audio and graphics. I am also an artist, having been trained in traditional fine arts and design for 13 years. Through my journalism, I want to inspire cross-cultural understanding by exploring not just what people are experiencing, but why — and why, at times, they’re calling for change. As an aspiring correspondent, I strive to tell stories that make people think while they feel.
