About Alex Neuhausen
I\'m the founder, owner, and operations manager for SILO Brooklyn, a 600-cap nightclub in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We\'re a small operation so my role covers staffing, HR, payroll, operations management, bar management, and the senior tech lead. I designed and supervised the venue build out starting in 2019, installed the sound, lighting and projection systems myself, and I\'m the on-premises manager Wednesday through Saturday night every week.I\'m also the co-founder and co-owner of SILO Security, a security contracting company. We provide flexible, friendly, inexpensive security staffing for retail, restaurant, and nightlife establishments throughout New York City.For the previous 12 years I was a senior software engineer with a passion for making consumer-facing web applications, specializing in Ruby on Rails and Vue.js. I primarily worked on bloomberglaw.com, Bloomberg LP\'s legal research web application, converting ideas into professional, polished products with a focus on reliability, fast, elegant development, and great test coverage. Before my career at Bloomberg I earned a PhD in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, researching condensed matter physics and nanoelectronics. The skills from my PhD, including excellent technical communication, scientific programming in Matlab, and the ability to manage complex projects and timelines carried over into my career as a professional engineer.In my spare time I previously built a SaaS product for venue and event booking/management, self-produced and released two LP\'s and three EP\'s of dance and electronic music which were licensed for television, videogames and short films, and ran the black box theater/small venue Secret Loft in the West Village of Manhattan for five years.
