In the late 19th century, Herman Hollerith, an early IBM pioneer, ignited a data revolution that would forever alter the course of history. Seemingly inconsequential at the time, he created what is believed to be the first form of mechanical data storage—the punch card. Used to process data for the 1890 US Census, each card stored 80 characters of information, marking a watershed moment in the shift away from manual record keeping.Fast forward to today, and the present-day data landscape has transformed far beyond what Hollerith could have ever envisioned. From punch cards to cloud computing, AI, and machine learning, the evolution of data processing has been nothing short of extraordinary. We now live in an era where quintillions of bytes of data are processed and generated daily, a true testament to human ingenuity and relentless innovation.My passion for working as a data professional is deeply rooted in this rich history.
