ABOUT ANDY WARD

I joined the Grace Road groundstaff at back in 1985 on a youth training scheme placement, I obviously didn’t realise then that it would become lifetimes work, I became deputy head groundsman in 1997 with my main responsibility being the upkeep of the Grace Rd outdoor net area. I became Head groundsman in 2010. In the 35 seasons I have worked at Grace Rd my duties have covered all aspects of groundwork at a first class cricket ground. My biggest achievement was winning the ECB awards for the best 1 day pitches in the 2013 and 2017 seasons, my groundstaff team and myself were also runners up in the ECB 4 day pitch category in 2019. Lucky to have met so many fantastic people in cricket over the years with only a few odd exceptions!
