Across three decades, I have been actively involved in leveraged buy-outs, working closely with private equity investors, banks and high net worth individuals. Along with fellow apprentices and future Aliter founders, Billy Allan and Greig Brown. I rose through the ranks in various senior Operational, Commercial and Financial roles, helping transform Stiell, culminating in its sale to Alfred McAlpine in 2002.More buy ins, successful growth and exitsBetween 20••••08, I remained as Group Commercial Director within Alfred McAlpine, delivering strong growth and adding significant value to the gross margin, before its sale to Carillion.In 2007 along with my ex Stiell colleagues, we teamed up with the fourth future Aliter founder, Andrew Busby, to form the buy-in team at Europa Support Services. In 2013, the business was sold to Bilfinger Berger. Other private-equity-backed deals in facilities management, logistics and laboratory services followed.Launching Aliter CapitalIn 2017, the four of us launched Aliter Capital, to create a different kind of private equity firm. Our first fund, Aliter Capital I, raised £92m. Over the next five years, we invested in four platform businesses, delivering utilities, infrastructure, networking and technical services, corporate training and digital learning. We worked closely with management teams, adding value and generating growth, while delivering upper quartile returns for our investors.Aliter Capital IILaunched in Dec 2022, our £134m Aliter Capital II fund has already created four platform businesses in;• IT Networking• Healthcare Data Analytics• Technical Services• IT Recruitment and ResourcingWe actively seek to make further investments in these and other areas of support services.
