ABOUT ANDY FINLAY

With over 24 years in residential childcare, I’ve had the privilege of supporting children, young people, and young adults to grow, heal, and flourish—and leading teams to do the same.Throughout my career, I’ve held senior and strategic leadership roles where I’ve driven meaningful, lasting change. Highlights include supporting the implementation of Scotland’s first National Practice Profile for Residential Childcare, leading work to eradicate the use of restraint through relationship-based practice, and consistently maintaining and improving Care Inspectorate grades.I’m particularly passionate about love-led leadership—the belief that strong, authentic relationships are at the heart of transformational care. This approach shaped my leadership of the “Love Inc”project, which explored the role of love within the care system and helped influence culture and practice across services.I believe storytelling is a powerful leadership tool. Creating space for people to share their experiences can inspire change, build understanding, and strengthen communities—and I actively encourage this in the teams and services I lead.My work has also been shaped by exposure to different cultures, helping me lead with curiosity, inclusivity, and adaptability in complex environments.Outside of work, I’ve been a passionate ice hockey fan for over 40 years—something that reflects my appreciation for teamwork, resilience, and commitment.I’m always open to connecting with others in the sector and exploring opportunities to contribute to positive change in children’s services.#Leadership #ResidentialChildcare #SocialCare #ChildrensServices #CareLeadership #TraumaInformedPractice #Scotland
