ABOUT ANDREW WILSON

I\'m a former BBC senior leader, now working independently with a wide range of organisations as a coach and facilitator, in particular at board level.I was in leadership positions at the BBC for more than 30 years; 25 years as a senior manager. In that time I took on critical pan-BBC challenges, taking a systemic approach to bringing together diverse teams from across the organisation. As Head of Foundation Programmes at the BBC Academy, I was responsible for the design and delivery of an intensive learning programme for every newly-appointed journalist and editorial leader across BBC Journalism (Nations, Regions, Network News, Global News and Sports News); the biggest project of its kind in the world. Programmes were delivered in the UK and overseas for the BBC World Service.I marketed and delivered development programmes commercially for international media leaders, working with major organisations in the USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Norway and Singapore, among many others. Subsequently I took on responsibility for leadership development, coaching and mentoring for the BBC Group, implementing a radical new digital-first approach, leading to greater impact and consistency against a background of increasing complexity and reducing resources. Before taking up leadership responsibilities, I was a radio presenter/producer and TV reporter. As Head of the BBC West region, I had executive responsibility for five local radio services, daily news and weekly current affairs TV programming and News Online. Under my editorial leadership, the region fought – and won – a substantial libel action in the High Court. I gave formal evidence to a Parliamentary Select Committee as part of the BBC Charter Review and to the BBC Trust on impartiality. I spent two years as Chairman of the Standards Committee for Somerset (5 years as a member) and three years on the management team of the Broadcast Journalism Training Council. I have also served on degree validation committees. I\'m a non-executive director for the independent regulator for Higher Education in England, the Office for Students, a trustee at the Shaftesbury Group UK, a leading care, education and rehabilitation charity and at the Wells Cathedral Chorister Trust. I work with Thrive Partners as a senior associate coach and facilitator.I have a proven track record in setting up and delivering strategic projects and in motivating and developing diverse teams. I have enjoyed applying these skills to different environments and to different challenges.
