About Andrew Udofa

I have been a PSTP Trainee with the STEMPREP Project since 8th grade and the program has brought me a variety of wet bench research experiences in institutions across the United States. During this span of time I became immersed in Sneaker Culture, which led to a strong interest in the design and function of athletic footwear. I enrolled in Southern Methodist University as a President’s Scholar in 2010. As a sophomore, my discovery of the Locomotor Performance Laboratory (LPL) offered the perfect marriage of my two passions: research and footwear. I joined the LPL as an undergraduate intern in June of 2012. During my last year as an undergraduate I realized that I had a desire to further my training in the field of Biomechanics. I applied and was accepted into the Applied Physiology doctoral program in the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education. I began my doctoral studies under the mentorship of Dr. Peter Weyand in the fall of 2014. My doctoral research project is entitled,\"Investigating the Mechanical Determinants of Running Ground Reaction Forces by Adding Weight, Changing Footwear, and Maximizing Speed.\" Within the LPL I also assist with projects that involve: maximum velocity sprint testing of international-caliber athletes, analysis of the impulse-momentum relationship of sports collisions, and translating biomechanical algorithms into wearable sensor-based technologies. I plan to pursue a career within the intersection of business, technology, and health.
