The last great inspiration driving the greatest growth in STEM enrollment was when President Kennedy announced that we were going to the moon in the next decade. This challenge made enrollment in the technical fields skyrocket and also drove economic growth that has benefited most industries and improved our lives. The return on investment of the space program is probably the largest of any venture this nation has funded in the 20th century. It defined our nation for the last 50 years
