Andrew McRoberts is a member of Sands Anderson PC\'s Government group. He focuses his work on land use and zoning, subdivision, real estate, tax assessment, special service districts, and other specialized advice and litigation for local governments in Virginia. He also represents select private clients on occasion. Andrew is based in the firm\'s Richmond office and heads the firm\'s Local Government Team.Andrew represents localities across Virginia, and is engaged on a part-time basis as County Attorney for Richmond and Essex Counties, and Town Attorney for Ashland and Irvington, and has in the past served as County Atty for King William County, Nottoway County, and Mathews County, and interim County Atty for Accomack County and Orange County, and interim City Attorney for Charlottesville.Prior to joining the firm, Andrew served more than eight years as Goochland County Atty, where he earned plaudits for his successful work in land use, real estate, tax assessment and special utility districts litigation and other matters. His appointment in Goochland followed similar successful service as County Atty in Culpeper County and Asst County Atty in Arlington County.Andrew is a popular speaker for local government organizations including the Local Government Attorneys of Va (LGA), VCU\'s Land Use Education program, Va Association of Counties, Va Municipal League, International Assoc of Assessing Officials, Va Assoc of Assessing Officials, Va Association of Zoning Officials, the Commissioners of the Revenue Assoc and others. He authored amicus briefs to the Va Supreme Court on behalf of several of these. He served the LGA as President (20••••06) and member of its Bd of Directors (19••••05). The LGA awarded Andrew its highest honor in 2012, the Edward J. Finnegan Award for Distinguished Service. He currently serves as Leader of the LGA Local Tax Practice Group, and formerly served on the Bd of Governors of the VSB Local Government Section.
