About Andrew Hoch

Ever since I was young, I have been surrounded by self-created businesses. Throughout his career, my father has founded and built two successful businesses. Through my experiences witnessing my father growing a business, I have come to love this industry. To further my passion, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration concentrating in finance from the Michael G. Foster School of Business at the University of Washington. I have grown to admire anyone with the capability of starting a business and realize how businesses can help, as well as hurt, individuals from all walks of life. Another important belief of mine is that education comes in two forms. There is the education that you learn in school and take from the books. Then there is education you receive from life and the experiences that you live. Being educated is not only about how book smart you are, or how many facts you can recite, but how empathetic and diverse you are. An educated person has the ability to accept people with multiple backgrounds, whether that be ethnicity, race or gender. They use their life experiences to better the world around them and have the ability to learn from other people’s ideas, accept them with respect, and agree to disagree when necessary. To further this belief of mine, I consciously choose to learn from everyone around me. It is important for us as humans to learn from people of other backgrounds and cultures. One way I have embodied this is through my learning of languages. I speak three languages fluently, English, Spanish and Lithuanian, and hope to use the skills I learned to connect with people around the world. In my studies, I incorporate this idea, as I am pursuing a second degree in Geography: Data Science at University of Washington. You may be thinking, how does geography connect to this ideal? By studying geography, I am able to gain a better perspective on the inner workings of our globe and how we are all interconnected. I also get the opportunity to look at how different places and locations around the world impact humans and their culture. Though I don’t know the exact field I want to join once entering the workforce, I hope to use the knowledge and experiences I have gained throughout my life to help better the world around me.
