About Andrew Harding

At Blue Origin, my focus has been on hiring and developing multiple teams of software and hardware engineers focused on avionics, MATLAB, ground software, system engineering, and data analysis. I focused on integrating AI into various aspects of the New Glenn rocket\'s software and tools infrastructure, including the development process, software architecture, code reviews, and mentoring. We continuously gathered feedback and adjusted according to what we found. Our teams have valued fast feedback, rapid iteration, and teamwork to solve issues. We developed guidelines for evaluating ChatGPT output, common scripts, and standards that we wanted AI to follow. Focused on how to store and optimize the large volumes of data from flights and tests to best support analysis and decision making. We based our teams’ philosophies on a growth mindset, common goals, and the value of the team.As part of the Reusable Stage Two team on New Glenn, we worked on many different radio solutions to help get the rocket through the blackout phase of re-entry. We studied everything from simple antennas to complex phased arrays. We worked with X, S, Ka, and Ku band solutions. We worked with communication providers that utilize satellites in LEO, MEO, and GEO orbits. Previously, as a Software Development Manager at Embark Trucks, I led cross-functional teams in creating robust frameworks for autonomous vehicles. We supported sensor and route planning teams, as well as supported the trucks as they operated. The sensor teams collaborated on a sensor fusion approach that utilized Lidar, Radar, and vision. Our efforts yielded advanced software solutions that supported both research and production, with a focus on over-the-air updates and vehicle interactions. With a commitment to Agile methodologies and a growth mindset, we cultivated an environment of continuous improvement, contributing to the development of self-driving technology.I have worked with safety-certified software for aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial, and other areas. I prefer working with mixed-criticality systems that have well-defined boundaries and multiple checks to ensure we are safe and operating effectively. I have many years of experience with IoT software and the Big Data issues that arise from large volumes of data flowing in from these installations.I have over 30 years of experience as a software manager, developer, team lead, systems engineer, technical sales representative, project manager, and program manager.
