ABOUT ANDREW YOON YOUNG CHEONG
My name is Andrew Yoon Young Cheong. I am a first-year student at Purdue University, studying Biomedical Health Sciences in Pre-Medicine Concentration with a minor in Bioinformatics at the College of Health and Human Sciences and John Martinson Honors College at Purdue University. Inspired by my experiences and driven by my goal to become a cardiothoracic surgeon, I am dedicated to building a foundation to provide effective, efficient, and empathetic care to my future patients.I am actively involved in research under the mentorship of Dr. Natasha Jaiswal as an undergraduate researcher, investigating the role of skeletal muscle AKT signaling pathways in the structural stability and functionality of Neuromuscular Junctions (NMJs). I am supporting this research through in-vivo experiments and analysis through mice. Moreover, as an undergraduate research fellow at the John Martinson Honors College, I am conducting Public Health research on the External Food Environment Surveillance System in Kenya.Looking ahead, I am excited to become more involved in clinical experiences in a healthcare setting, gaining more insight into the patient-physician dynamics. From there, I am keen to leverage my background and experiences to impact academic research and my community.
