Collaborated with peers to design and build an earthquake-resistant balsa wood tower for the annual EERI Seismic Design Competition.• Developed and implemented a damping system to enhance building resilience, improving performance in competition scoring metrics.• Analyzed seismic data and modeled ground motion scenarios to inform structural design decisions and optimize tower performance under simulated earthquake conditions.

ABOUT ANDREW AJ VILLARUEL
I am a fourth-year undergraduate at Cornell University, pursuing a double major in Biological Engineering and Global Development through the Colleges of Engineering and Agriculture & Life Sciences, with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. I have always had a strong passion for environmental justice which I explore through research in fluid mechanics and bioremediation. This fall, I plan to apply to PhD programs in fluid mechanics.
