ABOUT ANDREW SWEILEM

Senior at the University of California, Berkeley pursuing my bachelor\'s in Data Science with an emphasis in Economics with an expected graduation date of May 2025. During my recent internship at Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, I contributed to improving operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making through innovative applications of data science. I collaborated with the infrastructure team to design and deploy a Python-based integration with the AVEVA PI System, enabling the analysis of time-series data from over 700 sewer lines. This work included developing an SVM model, integrated with MongoDB, to detect live anomalies for overflow alarms. Additionally, I leveraged Python algorithms and fuzzy matching techniques to enhance the consistency of contracting data spanning nearly a century, resolving discrepancies in records dating back to 1923. My efforts ensured better data governance and provided actionable insights presented weekly to department leaders, highlighting the value of data science in optimizing operations and supporting informed decisions. Through my coursework at UC Berkeley, I have gained experience with coding and its application to Data Science, with proficiency in Python, Java, Pandas, Git, and R. At Berkeley I have also gained experience in macroeconomics, statistics, and probability. I also worked on a project with the Data Science Society at UC Berkeley which gave me experience in creating and using a predictive model. Outside of school, I volunteer regularly, most recently at Andre House, where I help to prepare and serve food to unhoused residentsin Phoenix. I also have practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 10 years and volunteer as an assistant coach for the kids’ Jiu-Jitsu class. During high school, I wresteled for the varsity team all four years. In my senior year, I served as a captain of the team, where I helped lead many peers to place in the state tournament, and became the AIA State Champion in the 132lb weight class. I have learned a lot about leadership, discipline and teamwork through Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling. At the moment, I am seeking any opportunities within the data science, finance, and fintech industries with hopes of expanding my knowledge and skills.
