ABOUT ANDREW SWAPP

I have been a teacher for 22 years both at the College level and as a High School teacher with students from 7 - 12th grades. I have instructed many subjects in the Career and Technical Education boundaries to include a science class of \"Physics with Technology\". I have been fortunate enough to design my own class of renewable energy under the guise of Advanced Technology. I have been able to work with the Wind, Solar, Geothermal, and Biomass industries in Beaver County Utah to establish wonderful working relationships and provide opportunity to my students. Recently I have been invited to speak publicly about my sustainable adventures. Looking back on my adventures as a youth growing up surrounded by national parks, my military experiences and my passion for teaching, I speak about motivation, life changers, and making a difference while respecting people, their traditions and ways of life. I have greatly enjoyed my previous speaking engagements across the country and have enjoyed learning from these different groups. Being part of a Community College team has been a wonderful experience. Building confidence in people who otherwise may not apply for a particular job. Knowing when to stand close for support and knowing when to observe from a distance to insure trust is never easy and sometimes feels like a gamble but, somehow it works out. I have taught long enough to see an entire wind farm run by alumni. I have former students who are running wind farms and whole regions of renewable energy now. Education is not just an occupation but it is a passion. When education is combined with energy my interest is peaked. Goals: To become the best educator that I can possibly become; not only by increasing my formal schooling but by industry experiences and hands on doing. To help people become more self sufficient by using my own farm as an example. Specialties: Career and technical education, public speaking, renewable energy introduction, sustainable agriculture and living, and do not forget veteran advocacy.
