ABOUT ANDREW STONE
Andrew H. W. Stone is an experienced, skilled, and creative evaluator and private sector development specialist with over 30 years of experience in the World Bank Group delivering evaluations, analytic reports, projects and new analytical tools. Strengths include powerful diagnostic and writing skills, a deep understanding of the challenges of the private sector in emerging economies, and excellent collaboration, mentoring and leadership skills in diverse, multinational and multicultural teams. Andrew is the technical lead for financial and private sector development in the Sustainable, Private Sector and Financial Sector Development Department of the Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) of the World Bank Group. He was previously Advisor to the Director and Head of the Macro Evaluation Team for the Private Sector Department. Currently, he co-leads evaluations on IFC Platforms, Financial Inclusion. and the Cascade approach Previously, he led or co- led evaluations on Doing Business, IFC Additionality in Middle-Income Countries, State-Owned Enterprise Reform, the Rural Nonfarm Economy, targeted support to Small and Medium Enterprises, Carbon Finance, and Financial Inclusion.Until June 2012, he was Lead Private Sector Development Specialist in the Finance and Private Sector Unit of the Middle East and North Africa Region of the World Bank. A central focus of his work has been the development and application of analytics to provide a standard and comparable basis for assessing conditions for private enterprise operation and growth and developing strategy and operations to address key constraints. In MENA he authored or co-authored Investment Climate Assessments and other work on Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Libya, Jordan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. He managed a development policy loan in Yemen and co-authored the regional flagship report on private sector development,\'From Privilege to Competition: Unlocking Private-Led Growth in the Middle East and North Africa Region\'. At the Bank, he has worked on both the methods for assessing the investment climate through enterprise surveys and policy analysis and the application of those methods in a variety of countries. Mr. Stone is coauthor of the book \'Investment Climate Around the World: A Voices of the firms from the World Business Environment Survey\'(with Geeta Batra and Daniel Kaufmann, 2003: World Bank, 2003) and author of multiple articles. Other areas of focus have included regulatory reform and business-government consultation.
