Exeter, GB

Attomarker has a new multiplexed blood testing technology that can measure 10 tests simultaneously from one drop of blood. The technology performs tests that are routinely requested by the doctor and will now be available over the counter in a pharmacy or at home. Attomarker is looking to change the management of population health by allowing accurate blood testing to be performed in remote communities or in the home, linked through the Cloud for Crowd Diagnosis.

ABOUT ANDREW SHAW

I like to think of myself as an Academic Entrepreneur.I started in pure science looking at quantum mechanics but 2 years at Stanford showed me how science can escape the University and make a big difference. I came back from Stanford two weeks after 9-11 and set up my first company EvanesCo in the field of counter terrorism and chemical and biological weapons detection. I sold rheumatoid arthritis company in 2006 thinking detecting the weapon is hard but detecting the host response is better. I won a big research grant at the University of Exeter and we invented the technology that is now the core IP of Attomarker. We looked at host response to bacterial and viral infection and we are very close with the iDevice to having test the will tell the difference between bacterial, viral and co-infection and inflammation with the first result in 45 seconds. A 2-year old boy was released from hospital with possible ear infection one evening and died of sepsis before breakfast the following day - we can stop this. Attomarker pivoted in the pandemic to look a the antibody response to COVID and now has a pipeline of assays looking at post COVID or Long COVID where patient show poor antibody response and potential persistent virus or hyper-responses. The long COVID patient are not all the same and the vision for Attomarker is to profile the difference - and we have. Clinics globally are not looking at the long COVID classification and seeing some improvements. Maybe the Attomarker vision can help the abandoned Long COVID community.
