ABOUT ANDREW SHARP

Andrew is Managing Director at Carnell Group, and has 30 years experience in the civil engineering industry, majoring in highways operations and maintenance contracts.Andrew is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), an Associate Member of the Chartered Management Institute (ACMI) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (FCIHT).In Andrew moved to the Highways Agency Maintaining Agent (MA) contract in Area 18 with Halcrow, before moving on to A-one+(Jacobs, Costain, Colas JV) in the Managing Agent Contractor (MAC) contracts, initially in Area 14 (North East) in 2003, and then in Area 12 (Yorkshire & Humber) in 2009. In 2016 Andrew moved on to the Asset Support Contract (ASC) in Area 12. On these long term highway maintenance contracts, Andrew has been involved in hundreds of highway capital maintenance and improvement schemes on the strategic road network, with people engagement being at the heart of this. Andrew held a variety of design, principal designer, project management, and leadership roles in A-one+, and from 20••••19 was part of the Senior Leadership Team and Network Board managing c.£120m annual turnover and 140 staff.Andrew was a core member of the successful A-one+ work winning team which secured MAC10, MAC7, MAC12, MAC14, ASC4 and ASC12 (c.£2.6bn). Andrew is also a multiple industry award winner with 36 wins in 10 years, many of these for the introduction of innovative products and solutions to the highways sector.Leading the award winning IPV No Strikes national training programme, Andrew developed the dedicated training website and led \'train the trainer\' sessions UK wide to improve roadworker and customer safety, including delivering presentations in London, Paris and Birmingham, culminating in winning The Prince Michael International Road Safety Award.In 2019, Andrew moved to Carnell Group to drive business strategy and innovation. Appointed Managing Director in 2021, he now champions the vision \'We Imagineer Tomorrow Today,\' fostering a culture that puts people at the heart of the company’s aspirations. In 2024, Andrew led the business through it\'s first acquisition, as Carnell Group grew. He also served on the industry leading Supply Chain Safety Leadership Group, providing early direction and insight on managing significant risk through leading indicators. Today, Andrew is leading the business forward with an exciting sustainable and balanced growth plan, underpinned with a passionate focus on doing business ethically and making the company a great place to work for all 300 employees.
