ABOUT ANDREW SERAZIN
I believe in the transformational power of science and technology to change lives. I am currently Senior Research Fellow at Reuben College at the University of Oxford where I direct the Global Challenges Programme.I am also Co-Founder and Chair of the Board of SilvaBio, a Public Benefit Company dedicated to restoring America’s forests through advanced bioengineering, cutting-edge genomics and precision forestry. Our first breakthrough is the Darling line of blight-tolerant American chestnut trees, and we are expanding our platform to protect other threatened hardwoods, including ash, elm, and oak. From 20••••23 I was the first full-time President of Templeton World Charity Foundation. We are building interdisciplinary teams of scientists, technologists, and humanities scholars to support scientific breakthroughs and practical tools related to the search for meaning, purpose, and truth. As a malaria researcher at Oxford and Notre Dame, as well as an executive at the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation in Seattle, I worked to harness insights from unconventional thinkers to advance solutions for nutrition, maternal and child health, and infectious diseases. I founded Matatu, a venture-backed biotechnology company, with Prof. Jeffrey Gordon to demonstrate the commercial and societal value of the vast community of beneficial bacteria.
