ABOUT ANDREW SANTOS
At NASA I developed the next wave of techniques to understand, design and certify composites. I focused on heat shield materials, including ablative, fiborous and woven materials. This was driven by communications and understanding of mission and program needs and vision, with support of amazing managers. I built tools to study entry-induced fracture, and to resolve meso- and micro-structure. Before NASA, I worked at Sandia where I advanced methods on particle packing and flow, and polymer nanocomposites. I earned my PhD in chemical engineer from Princeton. My thesis, “Surfactant and colloidal Self-Assembly Simulations”, advanced our understand of low-concentration self-assembly. I write original code for simulations and analysis, as well as develop open-source packages. I apply and develop discrete element, explicit-fiber, peridynamics, Monte Carlo, molecular dynamics and TILD. And I am always open to different techniques for a project, either to learn them or being in experts.
