ABOUT ANDREW KOMAR
I am a Civil Engineering PhD, and I work at Fermar Paving Limited as the Claims Manager I prepares technical documents and assist in the dispute resolution process for various stakeholders. I provide interpretation, guidance and analysis for ongoing issues. I provide best practice consultation for developing new opportunities that touch all aspects of the construction process, from bid to final closeout. My academic focus is in construction material technology, primarily concerned with concrete durability. I have acted as an expert witness in legal proceedings in this capacity. I worked to design, develop and program an indirect tensile test for plain concrete which I successfully used for my research. I used this pressure tension test to investigate a variety of concrete durability issues including freeze-thaw, creep, cyclic loading and sulfate attack. During my time at McGill I also worked as a course lecturer and teaching assistant, so I have experience presenting and evaluating technically challenging material to audiences of a variety of backgrounds. In my capacity as a TA and course lecturer I managed a team of 8 teaching assistants to administer 6 lab sessions for a required undergraduate course. I have extensive experience with the Microsoft Office suite, AutoCad, and LabView programming software.
