About Andrew Geckle
How does that work?I have always been fascinated by the technology and innovation that goes into everyday objects and how they work. Cell phones are an obvious example but something as simple as flipping a light switch to has a lot going on behind the curtains. After taking the Project Lead The Way engineering program in high school, I fell in love with electrical engineering. It applied math, my favorite subject before, to the world of electricity, something that always enticed me. My fascination of electrical engineering became clear when I started studying at the University of Maryland. There, I gained valuable research experience under Professor Julius Goldhar. During research, I learned to work part of a team, learned documentation skills and learned about image processing methods using MATLAB. This also sparked my interest in researching and lab work.Throughout my college career, I realized that I loved helping people. Whenever my friends had a math question, I dropped everything to try to help them and explain it in the best way I could. I would give all the advice I had to my, at the time, collegebound-brother to ensure he could make the most out of college. After realizing this, I thought it was only sensible to apply to be a mentor for the University of Maryland\'s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and undergraduate teaching fellow for the physics department. Having these positions gave me the best of both worlds. I have two mentees whom I can help develop, and I can aid in the educational development of students in a subject that I enjoy.Currently, my goals are to use the skills I currently have to help people in need, and to learn more about the world around me. My life outside these goals are much more relaxed. In my free time, I love learning Chinese, playing basketball, lifting weights, cooking, hiking, watching the NBA and hanging out with friends. If you would like to talk and get to know me better, feel free to contact me. I\'d love to connect and get to know you-Email: a•••••••@gmail.com
