About Andrew Dilanchian

I’m a human factors and cognitive science researcher with a PhD from Florida State University, trained in both cognitive psychology and computer science. My work focuses on understanding how people interact with technology in real-world, high-complexity settings, and how those interactions can be measured, analyzed, and used to inform better system design.Over the course of my academic and applied work, I’ve designed and run human-subjects studies, built experimental platforms, and developed tooling to capture and analyze behavioral data. Much of my research has centered on virtual reality, user interaction, and performance under cognitive load, including work on presence, embodiment, and engagement in immersive environments. I’ve contributed to peer-reviewed publications and collaborated on applied research projects involving VR-based training and simulation.Beyond traditional research roles, I’ve spent a significant amount of time building applied systems based on this work. That includes developing research tools, telemetry pipelines, and prototypes that translate interaction data into signals related to performance, workload, fatigue, and user behavior over time. I’m especially comfortable working in spaces where the research question, the measurement approach, and the tooling all need to be defined together.I’ve worked across academic, government, and startup contexts, including applied research with the U.S. Army Research Institute and product-oriented projects focused on cognitive assessment and user research workflows. This mix has shaped how I approach problems: practical, data-driven, and grounded in how systems are actually used rather than how we assume they’re used.
