ABOUT ANDREW CASTANEDA
I am devoted to, and excel at, three areas - each one strengthening the others: social media and communications, audience engagement and community engagement, and city planning. Let me expand a bit on each one. Social Media and Marketing Communications for Business -As a first-year student at Western University, I was faced with a challenging local economy due to the 2008 recession which hit London especially hard. With a youth unemployment rate over 30%, I was forced to be resourceful. Starting from my kitchen table, I was able to build an impressive client list. Growing up around marketing/advertising, I was able to combine that experience with strong creative writing skills to give my clients innovative, attention-grabbing and cost-effective ideas to reach their customer base through social media. Audience Outreach/Community Engagement-Social media and marketing/communications experience has proven invaluable as I’ve pursued my education in city planning. Audience outreach and community engagement - which is essential to best planning practices one and the same. Combining my years of audience outreach with community engagement skills I’ve gained both in my studies, as well as on my own time (via the Jack Layton School of Community Leadership and various projects), I have honed professional-level engagement/outreach skills suitable for both private commerce, as well as public engagement. City Planning -A graduate of Ryerson Unversity\'s School of Urban and Regional Planning, I have expanded on my education in politics (Western \'13) to learn community engagement/development from the perspective of a neighbourhood builder and place maker.I’m always interested in hearing from those working in social media/marketing/communications, those working in community engagement/outreach, as well as in city planning.
