Although the idea for the entirely virtual \"Museum of American War Letters\"(MAWL) was conceived of more than a decade ago, it officially opened on March 29, 2021, with its inaugural \"wing\" focusing on the war in Vietnam. MAWL is intended to be a model for similar entirely virtual \"buildings,\" which are created and live entirely online; they are not virtual renderings of existing brick-and-mortar structures or models for future structures. They are immersive and interactive, and they include both an interior and exterior design to make visiting the destination as realistic as possible.
