Researched the fuel consumption, emissions, and vehicle characteristics of conventional, alternative fuel, and advanced heavy-duty vehicles, for the development of the first publicly released heavy-duty vehicle module in the GREET 1 fuel-cycle-model• Developed the Alternative Fuel Life-Cycle Environmental and Economic Transportation (AFLEET) Tool for Department of Energy’s Clean Cities stakeholders to estimate petroleum use, greenhouse gas emissions, air pollutant emissions, and cost of ownership of light-duty and heavy-duty alternative fuel and advanced vehicles• Investigated methane leakage from the natural gas, petroleum and coal production and estimated its impacts on life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions of power plants and vehicles• Examined the market status, opportunities, and barriers for natural gas and propane vehicles to help develop a five-year strategy for the Clean Cities program• Researched the fuel consumption, electricity grid mix, and vehicle-cycle, along with other key issues, for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles• Analyzed data from ethanol plant surveys to estimate greenhouse gas emissions• Collected vehicle weights, component weight distributions, and material composition of components for several types of light duty vehicles along with the energy and emissions required for producing vehicle materials, for the development of the first publicly released version of the GREET 2 vehicle-cycle model
