ABOUT ANDREW BEVERLEY

Right out of college, I felt like I hit the jackpot when I was selected to be part of a rigorous management development program at a large Texas bank. In the 15 years I spent with that bank, I was fortunate to grow in assignments ranging from large corporate banking to middle-market commercial lending to Trust & Investments. I wouldn’t exchange anything for my big bank experience, but mid-career, I took a plunge that turned out to be a great decision. We moved our family to Columbia, Missouri and I had the opportunity to hold leadership roles in two strong community banks. In addition to expecting us to be good bankers, both banks encouraged their executives to roll up their sleeves to make our community stronger. One of my most rewarding community activities was being an organizer and the first president of an angel investment group. Since it started, the group has invested $12 million in 32 companies. I have learned lots about start-up businesses and have met exceptional entrepreneurs and fellow investors. Two of the original investors in this group were entrepreneurs who owned a young, fast-growing mortgage company. They invited me to develop and lead an advisory board of directors for them. For the past 15 years, I have had the honor of facilitating countless board meetings and executive retreats, watching this company grow to more than employees and become the largest VA lender in the U.S. These same two entrepreneurs decided to get into banking and asked me to start a bank for them. Without a doubt, the steepest learning curve of my career came as I went from being an executive at a 150-year-old bank to the first employee of a new online digital bank. I’m still involved as a board member, but I gave up my CEO role and day-to-day responsibilities in December 2021. Over the years, I have found that I am particularly passionate about three things: • Facilitating executive retreats and board meetings. I love the opportunity to use the techniques I have refined over the years to bring out the very best thinking in a group. • Growing and developing high-potential leaders. Maybe because I feel so fortunate to have had wonderful mentors over the years, leadership development is something I really enjoy. • Serving as a board member, especially in times of change or rapid growth. Please reach out if you want to talk retreat facilitation, your board of directors, banking, start-ups, angel investing. or anything else where you think I might be able to create value.
